What a student signature should include

  • Full name · no nicknames on job applications.
  • Degree and expected graduation · e.g. "BS Computer Science, Class of 2027".
  • University · the full name, not the abbreviation.
  • LinkedIn · the single most useful link for a student.
  • Optional phone · for recruiter callbacks.

And what to leave out

  • · Aspirational job titles you don't hold yet.
  • · Personal photos on internship applications. A clean text-only signature beats a low-resolution selfie every time.
  • · Inspirational quotes. Recruiters count them against you more often than they help.
  • · Home address or full mailing address. Your university and email are enough.

Common questions

What should a student email signature look like?

Full name, degree program with expected graduation year, university, and one or two ways to reach you (email, LinkedIn). Skip a job title unless you actually hold one — 'Aspiring Marketer' reads as filler.

Do I need a signature for internship applications?

Yes — recruiters read hundreds of emails a week and use signatures to skim. A tidy signature with your degree and grad year makes you easier to file and follow up with.

Should I link my LinkedIn?

Absolutely. For students it's often the strongest single link — more useful than a personal website that isn't finished yet.
